How to restore an old photo

The service removes scratches and scuffs, corrects faded colors and brings back sharpness in old pictures. The result appears next to the original so you can compare them and decide whether it suits you.

  1. 01

    Upload the picture

Scan the photo or photograph it in good light without glare. The better the source file, the better the result.

  2. 02

    Wait a little

Processing takes no more than two minutes. If the result fails or does not arrive, your credits are returned.

  3. 03

    Compare and download

Look at before and after, check faces and details and download the file as JPG.

What it is for

  • Digitize a family archive and keep old pictures in good quality.
  • Prepare a photo for an anniversary, a family celebration or a memory album.
  • Gather photos for a family tree and family history.
  • Reprint an old picture without scratches and stains.

How to prepare the picture

  • Scan at 300–600 dpi or photograph it in daylight without flash.
  • Take the picture out of the frame or from under glass to avoid glare.
  • Lay the photo flat and shoot straight from above, without tilt.
  • Crop the extra margins around the picture before uploading.

Good to know

What to expect

The service will not bring back what is not in the picture: badly damaged areas are filled in by guesswork, so details may differ from the real ones. Black-and-white pictures usually come out in color: the colors are a guess and may differ from the real ones.

Faces in the picture

The service tries to keep faces intact, but in badly faded pictures fine features may come out slightly different. That is why the result is always shown next to the original, and the source photo stays with you.

What it costs

One restoration costs 30 credits. When you sign up you get 50 credits — enough for 1 restoration. If a failure stops the result from being made, the credits are returned in full.

Rights to the photo

Upload only photos that you have the right to edit and use.

Restoration or quality improvement?

Restoration is for old pictures with scratches, scuffs and faded colors. If the photo is not damaged but just small or soft, quality improvement fits better: it enlarges the photo 2 or 4 times and makes it sharper.

Common questions

How much does photo restoration cost?

One restoration costs 30 credits. We give you 50 credits when you sign up.

Can a badly damaged photo be restored?

You can try, but the result depends on the picture. Badly damaged areas are filled in by guesswork, so details may differ from the real ones.

Will the faces in the photo change?

The service tries to keep faces intact, but fine features may come out slightly different. That is why the result is shown next to the original, and the source file stays with you.

Can a black-and-white photo be turned into color?

Yes, black-and-white pictures usually come out in color as part of the restoration — there is nothing extra to press. The colors are a guess: clothes, eyes or the background may differ from what they really were.

How long does restoration take?

Usually about half a minute, no more than two minutes. If processing does not fit into that time, the result is not shown and your credits are returned.

Do I need to scan the picture?

A scan or a photo of the print in good light without glare will do. The better the source file, the better the result.

Do you store my photos?

OneKlick does not keep the uploaded picture or the result in your history — download the result right away. For processing, the file is passed to the service that performs the restoration.

What format is the result?

The result downloads as JPG. The source file can be JPG, PNG or WEBP.
